Encouraging people to become more involved in their communities is a key aim of VODA and our partners who make up the North Tyneside Strategic Partnership. Our communities benefit immensely from thousands of volunteer hours given by local people and businesses to improve facilities and services for those living and working in the area.

The Sector Connector project will enable local companies to use their business skills to help VCS organisations within the Borough. The emphasis will be on appropriate use of skills, ensuring that groups benefit fully from the expertise on offer, and on developing discrete projects which meet the needs of our communities. This will ensure that the voluntary and community sector is better equipped to deal with the challenges facing society over the next decade, and will help companies develop meaningful CSR strategies that have demonstrable benefits.

The role of the Project Co-ordinator is to make this happen. We are looking for someone with a sound business background but who also has an understanding of how voluntary and community groups operate. You may have been responsible for CSR strategy within a company, or you may have helped to run a VCS group by serving on its board or management committee. Striking the right balance between what groups need and what businesses can reasonably offer is a key skill of this project, as is the ability to engage with people from all walks of life and build workable partnerships. You should be aware of the importance of social media and have previous experience of project management, including managing budgets, monitoring and evaluating your work and producing written reports and presentations.
