UK workers confident about job security
Legal & General’s new quarterly Job Security Index suggests that 75% of UK workers feel positively about future job prospects. 77% of working adults in full time employment felt confident in their job security, and compared with 67% in part time employment.
Only 3% felt at risk of unemployment, and 8% said that they are looking for a new job with better job security.
The index also showed that if UK workers were to lose their jobs, 28% would like to start their own business, and 37% would be self-employed as a contractor or freelancer.
Mark Holweger, Director of Legal & General’s general insurance business said: “It’s really encouraging and refreshing to see such levels of confidence by UK workers. It’s also interesting to see such a positive attitude towards potential unemployment, with so many keen to consider other employment options such as becoming self-employed or starting a business.”
“This increased confidence will hopefully be reflected in the consumer market to the benefit of the UK economy, as well as the individuals concerned.”
