Packed programme for restored Theatre Royal
Restoration work at the Theatre Royal Newcastle is almost complete, just in time for the start of the new season this September.
From Autumn 2011 through to Spring 2012, the theatre will offer visitors a vast range of productions, from drama and comedy through to dance spectaculars and the famous pantomime.
Philip Bernays, Chief Executive of the Theatre Royal said: “ The news season is once again filled with the very best drama, dance, musicals, opera, family shows and comedy shows on tour in the UK right now, but will be more special than ever before as it will be presented in our spectacular newly restored auditorium.“
Highlights of the programme include End of the Rainbow, which details the end of July Garland’s career and arrives at the Theatre Royal following rave reviews in the West End, alongside four Olivier award nominations. Opera North are also returning to the theatre with three new productions: Bellini’s ‘Norma’, Tchaikovsky’s ‘The Queen of Spades and Handel’s ‘Giulio Cesare’.
Musical treats will come in the form of the all-time classic ’The King and I, alongside the modern rags-to-riches tale of Susan Boyle; ‘I Dreamed a Dream’.
Philip added: “Once we re-open in September this year we will offer our customers the nest Theatrical experience in the UK bar none.”
