Construction speeding ahead on McLaren’s new manufacturing facility at Rotherham's AMP

JF Finnegan, the contractor and developer, is 14 weeks into the construction of McLaren’s new bespoke manufacturing unit within the 100-acre Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham.

Work on the 75,000 sq ft building for supercar giant McLaren Automotive began on site in August, with completion due next spring.

McLaren Automotive has committed to spending the next two decades at the AMP after agreeing a deal with land regeneration and property investment specialist, Harworth Group plc.

The new composite technology centre, which is set to create around 200 new jobs, will build carbon-fibre chassis for future McLaren sports cars and full production will begin at AMP in 2018.

In addition, JF Finnegan recently completed units 7 and 8 on the Advanced Manufacturing Park for Harworth Group and is currently working for The University of Sheffield on three research facilities (known as LVV, RTC & ICAIR) on the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC).

Gary Smith, managing director of JF Finnegan, commented: “We are delighted primarily to be working with The Harworth Group again in an area where we have operated extensively in the last 10 years, but also to be constructing a building that will be used by such an iconic brand as McLaren is very satisfying.”
