Restaurateur plots new European wine bar on Newcastle’s historic Quayside

Work on a new European wine bar is underway in Newcastle.

The Quayside venue is the latest venture from chef and restaurateur Terry Laybourne, who recently closed his Italian restaurant Caffe Vivo to create a new concept in the city.

St Vincent will take inspiration from European traditions and occupy space within the Live Theatre buildings.

Terry and his team have gutted the premises for a refit that will introduce softer furnishings, intimate booths, high bench tables and an enlarged bar area with stools.

Manager Matthew Clarkson will operate St Vincent with his existing team, but plans to recruit new full- and part-time staff.

He said: “We’re on the lookout for people with a passion for great wine, great food and great service.”

St Vincent will offer wines, cocktails, beers, ciders and menu of small plates.

Terry said of his new venture: “St Vincent is a wine bar, inspired by the places I love to spend time in across Europe.

“This is the Broad Chare five years on, that’s gone European. It’s also a place where you can order as many dishes as you like, combining with a great selection of classic and new-style wines. A place to hang out and enjoy great food and great drinks with friends… and strangers.”

St Vincent will open September 28.
