“Busiest October on record” for Heathrow Airport with 6.9 million passengers

Heathrow Airport has reported its “busiest October on record” in its latest traffic commentary.

The airport welcomed over 6.9 million passengers last month, with an overall growth of 0.5 per cent.

Routes to the Middle East saw the biggest uplift with a 6.5 per cent increase, followed by Africa with a 5.9 per cent rise.

East Asia was also a key market for the airport, with a 4.9 per cent increase as a result of new routes and the Rugby World Cup in Japan.

The commentary follows the release of Heathrow’s Q3 results, which showed the airport’s ninth consecutive year of passenger growth.

Commenting in the report, Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye focused on the airport’s priority of reducing emissions: “Heathrow continues to deliver for the economy, but we are also making progress on tackling the biggest issue of our time - climate change - by decarbonising the global aviation sector.

“We are delighted that British Airways has become the first airline in the world to commit to net zero emissions by 2050 and that others are following their lead.

“The UK government has an opportunity to show real global leadership by making net zero aviation a focus for COP26 in Glasgow in 12 months’ time.”
