Tech specialist marks ten-year milestone
A North East IT and cyber security specialist has celebrated ten years in business, marking a decade of growth, technological change and investment in its services.
Net-Defence welcomed customers, partners and colleagues to Dakota Newcastle for an anniversary event reflecting on its development and future ambitions.
Originally established as a telecommunications provider, the company has evolved into a specialist in managed IT, cyber security and business resilience, supporting clients across professional services, finance, manufacturing and engineering.
Managing director Debra Cairns said: “Ten years is a significant milestone for Net-Defence, and it was fantastic to be able to celebrate it with so many of the people who have been part of our journey, the evening was really about our customers, partners, and our team.
“We’ve built the business around long-term relationships and technical knowledge, and we wouldn’t be where we are today without the trust and commitment of the people we’ve worked with over the last decade.
“We’re particularly proud of our North East roots and the role we’ve been able to play in supporting businesses across the region.”
Over the past decade, Net-Defence has invested in technical expertise, automation and staff development, responding to the growing importance of digital technology and increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
Debra added: “The biggest change we’ve seen is that technology and cyber security are no longer separate conversations from the wider business, they’re fundamental to how organisations operate.
“Digital systems underpin everything from customer relationships and supply chains through to finance and day-to-day operations, that makes resilience increasingly important.
“Our own journey has reflected that change, we’ve continued to develop our expertise so that we can support customers not just with their technology, but with the wider challenges and risks that come with being a digitally connected business.”
The company has also received industry recognition, including an honour at the Tyne and Wear Business Awards UK and a recent shortlisting in the Outstanding Security Performance Awards.
Alongside its anniversary celebrations, Net-Defence has launched The Signal, a free online resource providing practical guidance on cyber security, compliance, regulation and business resilience.
Featuring guides, self-assessment tools, videos and events, the platform aims to help organisations navigate increasingly complex digital risks.
Debra added: “The Signal is one example of how we’re looking to take what we’ve learned over the last ten years and make that knowledge more accessible.
“Businesses are dealing with an enormous amount of information and increasingly complex risks, so we wanted to create something practical that helps cut through some of that complexity.”
Looking ahead, the company plans to continue investing in its people and technical capabilities while strengthening support for businesses across the region.
Debra added: “It's been an incredible ten years, but we’re just as focused on what comes next.
“We’ll continue investing in our people, developing our technical capabilities and supporting businesses across the North East as the threat landscape and technology continue to evolve – most importantly, we’re grateful to everyone who has been part of the journey so far.”
