Portsmouth's ACI secures £2.6 million defence export orders

Slough-based engineering specialist Corac Group has announced that its subsidiary Atmosphere Control International (ACI) has received £2.6 million worth of orders from two export customers for submarine atmosphere management systems. The Portmouth-based firm’s first order, worth approximately £1.8 million, is from DCNS, the French naval submarine builder, for the supply of an oxygen production plant for the Barracuda class submarine programme. Hull telecoms provider KCOM set to axe 80 jobs

Hull-based telecoms provider KCOM Group is set to axe around 80 jobs after warning that its overall revenue performance was “challenged in some activities.” This comes after disappointing results for the firm, which reported a dip in pretax profit and revenue. Revenue decreased to £173 million from £185 million in the same 6 month period ending September 30. Pretax profit dipped to £23.6 million compared to £25.7 last year. Chemicals firm to invest $1 billion in UK shale gas exploration

Swiss chemicals firm Ineos is set to announce plans to invest around $1 billion (£640 million) in shale gas exploration and production in the UK. According to the BBC, the company plans to use the gas as a raw material for its chemicals plants, including Grangemouth in Stirlingshire, which is currently running at a loss. Ineos is building Europe’s largest shale gas import facility to feed its petrochemicals plant at Grangemouth, but it wants to produce home grown shale gas as well. In…
