North East LED supplier upsizes to new premises at Newcastle Airport

A North East LED firm has upsized to new premises at Newcastle Airport after outgrowing its two previous sites as the LED market has boomed in recent years.
Amitex LED has moved into its new 9,415 sq ft warehouse and office site at the region’s biggest airport after expansion had meant its previous home in Hexham had become too small.
The firm, which currently employs 20 people, will now look to expand its headcount over the next year as it looks to further grow its orderbook to electrical wholesalers in UK and grow its early overseas sales push.
Managing Director at the firm, Alan Morton, said that the rapid growth in LED technology, which is forecast to grow by 15% every year until 2020, had contributed to Amitex’s rapid growth.
He commented: "We are growing rapidly thanks to the increasing popularity of environmentally friendly LED Lighting. We were very short of office space and our warehousing was spread across two separate sites.
"These new premises allow us to have everything in one place and to operate far more efficiently. We also have room for further expansion."
Following the government’s phased ban on incandescent and halogen light bulbs back in 2012, LED lighting technology has become the technology of choice for lighting projects across industries and sectors.
Looking ahead, Morton foresees the future of LED lighting only becoming brighter and said: “The UK government has designated the LED Lighting Industry as a strategically important industrial sector because it rewards customers with lower energy bills while helping the government to achieve its carbon emission targets.
"In Australia the government is so keen to promote LED Lighting that it is giving away free light bulbs. I’m not expecting this to happen in the UK just yet, but I know the market will grow rapidly for some time to come.“
