Campus North launches programme to support women in digital

Posted by on 04 Apr 2017

Newcastle tech hub Campus North is launching a new programme to support women working in the digital sector.

Whilst the sector suffers from a well-documented dearth of available talent, the skills shortage is particularly apparent when it comes to women - especially those looking to progress into leadership roles.

Of the entire UK’s IT workforce, only 18% is female with the percentage of senior roles filled by women half of that figure.

A report by Lord Davies, Women on Boards, identified attrition of women at mid-career stage of their life as the most significant obstacle to ensuring a robust pipeline of future women leaders.

Tech for Life, Campus North’s education arm, is delivering the new programme for women who want to improve their skills, become more confident and progress in their career or become a leader in their organisation.

Lyndsey Britton, Campus North and Tech for Life co-founder, explained: “We launched our new Leading Ladies for Life programme at our recent event on International Women’s Day.

“We had an amazing panel of female speakers, from brilliant mathematicians to engineers and the discussion really demonstrated what the barriers still are to women progressing in careers in STEM.

“Leading Ladies for Life is designed specifically for women in the tech and digital sector and will help improve their skills and confidence, offer learning from others and give them actions they can take back to implement in their workplace.“

Lyndsey added: “As they become role models and leaders they can also inspire other female colleagues too.“
