Students get creative advice
Yesterday saw the launch of a collaboration between Newcastle University and the region’s creative industry. The Creative Campaigns module is provided by Newcastle-based The bgroup, and is available to students on the BA Applied Communications course at the university’s School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences.
The bgroup has been working with course director Chris Haywood over the past year to design the module, which gives students hands on experience of running and managing a campaign. They will have to work in project groups over the course of the semester with a live brief for real projects for different university services. They will be asked to plan, run and manage a communications campaign to raise interest in a particular service, survey opinions, or gauge customer satisfaction. The students will be working with university services including the library, the international office, the careers service and the open access centre.
Diane Gates, Creative Director of The bgroup, said: “Often students leave university without much practical experience of applying the knowledge they have acquired. This is a great way for the students to put their learning into practice and run real campaigns. We believe this will be a really valuable module for all communications students and we hope to build on this year on year.”
