UK Enterprise Week goes global
The success of the UK’s national Enterprise Week has inspired the creation of similar events in the United States and India, both of which are running their own Enterpreneurship Week this week. In the UK’s 2006 Enterprise Week, 448,000 people attended 3,184 events involving 8,913 organisations. There were 1,344 pieces of media coverage worth £5.4 million.
Kevin Steele, Chief Executive of the Make Your Mark campaign, which co-ordinates Enterprise Week in the UK, said: “Exporting Enterprise Week to the US is a bit like selling ice to the Eskimos. “Enterprise is a crucial element for a country’s growth and, as the world becomes increasingly more connected through globalisation, encouraging this international enterprise network will be essential. It’s great that the UK is leading the way.”
Margaret Hodge, Industry and Regions Minister, said: “Enterprise Week opens the eyes of thousands of young people to the opportunities that being an entrepreneur can bring. It is a key part of the Government’s commitment to boost British business and create the world beating entrepreneurs of the future.
