Swans take flight in North East

More than a hundred businesses have given their backing to the launch of a new networking group primarily offering support and opportunities for women to start, develop and grow their business in the region.

Swans North East was launched with the aim of providing women with support to encourage them into self-employment or to advance in their current career. The networking group offers support and opportunities for women at all stages of their careers to grow their business, or to further their development in management or leadership positions, by networking, training and mentoring

Two regional business women are at the heart of Swans North East - Lesley Hunter from Mynx Business Development and Mica MacInnes of Chrysalis Learning and Development Solutions.

Although aimed at women within the North East, Swans have opened membership to men who are committed to supporting and encouraging the advancement of women in the workplace.

The launch event at Newcastle’s Holiday Inn, was well attended with companies representing banking, social enterprise, coaching and photography.

Kate Welch OBE, Chief Executive of social enterprise company Acumen Development Trust, was a speaker at the event. She said: “Networking is an excellent way to meet like minded people and to find ways to work together to increase opportunities for developing businesses in the North East. The Swans event was brimming over with passion and enthusiasm for enterprise.”

Lesley Hunter said: “Everybody tonight has commented how beneficial networking can be to help business develop. Swans will link people together as well as providing useful training and master classes on relevant business skills such as public relations, leadership skills, finance and sales.”
