Successful year for Newcastle College
Leading employment and education professionals have recently joined together to celebrate the first year of Newcastle College’s Success North Centre for Excellence in Teacher Training (CETT).
Jenny Moon, author of several teacher training publications, met with industry professionals and partners to commend ‘Success North’, a partnership led by Newcastle College in conjunction with Leeds Metropolitan University, eight FE colleges and a host of both regional and national educational organisations. These educational bodies collectively aim to develop and enhance the quality of training and development for teachers in the learning sector.
During the past 12 months the CETT has been driving forward a development program that has produced a range of new courses, modules and materials. Some of the main areas the CETT has focused on have been industry specific teacher training and integrated specialist courses.
Sheran Johnson, manager at Newcastle College CETT, said: “We are delighted that the CETT is proving so successful. We have generated many new partnerships nationally and continue to develop new and innovative methods of teacher training. Leading a CETT helps to reinforce the college’s reputation for excellent teaching and learning across our FE and HE programmes.”
A number of courses that combine specialist Literacy, Numeracy and ESOL teacher training options, are currently underway as well as vocational teacher training modules and specialist offender learning courses. Online and blended teacher training resources are also currently in development in order to aid the development of new entrants to the teacher training profession. Additionally, Success North are piloting online and blended teacher training courses for UK and overseas student teachers.
