North East England going underground
Durham Cathedral will be seen by up to 2 million Londoners this summer as part of the latest drive to promote North East England.
The Cathedral stars in a new advertising campaign designed to bring more visitors to the region. The campaign, run in conjunction with National Express and Enjoy England, highlights special first class rail fares to the region from London.
Posters featuring the Cathedral and the Newcastle and Gateshead quaysides will be on show at 20 sites on the Underground for the next couple of weeks. The campaign will be supported by adverts in the Evening Standard while online marketing activity will also attract people to the www.visitnortheastengland.com website.
The marketing drive follows a TV advertising campaign earlier in the year which saw hotel and guest house occupancy figures for the first three months of the year up on 2007.
Tania Robinson, Head of Marketing at One NorthEast said: “Durham Cathedral and NewcastleGateshead quayside are both stunning locations and will do a great job selling the region. “They were chosen because the two stations attract the most visitors but we were spoiled for choice with the National Express East coast mainline providing great access to so many of our iconic attractions including Holy Island, the Cheviots, The Alnwick Garden, Hadrian’s Wall, mima to name just a few.”
