â??Business aware' owners go back to the classroom

Members of the region’s business community have been going back to the classroom to attend the Northern Leadership Academy’s (NLA) ‘business aware’ seminars.

The seminars, held by Newcastle Business School at Northumbria University, were designed to strengthen the relationship between the region’s business community and the Business School.

Dr. John Fenwick of Newcastle Business School said: “The whole point of the business aware seminars was to bring business people into ‘our’ world and see what is on offer here - the expertise, the facilities, the opportunity to learn by experience from others and, generally, to demonstrate that Newcastle Business School could be ‘for them’. It’s all about building and strengthening relationships.”

The seminars were developed as a direct response to the needs of small enterprises. Dr Fenwick, along with the business school’s Nicola Patterson supported the learning topics with Angela Mclean of Fast Forward Now Ltd leading and coordinating the project.

Angela McLean said: “We are hoping that we can access additional funding to be able to run another seminar series next year, as word has already spread throughout the business community and there are a number of people who are keen to participate next time round.”
