Orange Bus pushes the speed of growth

Newcastle-based digital company Orange Bus has increased its turnover by more than 300% in the last year and is predicting further growth as UK businesses strive to remain competitive with a strong e-presence.

The firm, which recently moved into a windmill office on Claremont Road in Newcastle, has created three new jobs in the last three months and has won four new projects in the last month alone. The team has beaten off stiff competition to win work in London with the world famous KOKO live music venue.

Director and co-founder, Julian Leighton, said one of the reasons for the surge in new business wins is down to the fact that businesses have recognised they need to remain ahead of the competition in a difficult economic climate.

“A lot of businesses are intelligently capitalising on the fact that many of their competitors are hiding away - which is exactly the time to market harder and create a strong online presence,” said Mr Leighton.

“For too long the North East’s web design industry has been in the shadow of the south - we have a pool of hugely talented creative minds in this region and we are starting to see the rewards.”

Herb Kim, CEO of Codeworks - the centre for digital innovation for North East England - believes the success of Orange Bus is great example of the talent in this region, which needs to be nurtured for its innovation and creativity.

“Orange Bus is a great example of how the digital sector has matured in North East England. “Although a few people bizarrely still see the North as somehow behind the times, the good news is that more and more companies are waking up to the fact that digital agencies in the region can deliver a return on investment that few elsewhere can match.”
