YENE launches new business benefit

Enterprise education charity Young Enterprise North East (YENE) has launched a new volunteer benefit in their continued bid to encourage businesses not to give up on training during the credit crunch.

YENE will now award volunteers across its 11 programmes with a free personal development training programme (PDP).

YENE’s professional PDP means employees who teach on any of its education programmes, including Company Programme, Gimme 5 and Learn to Earn, will now come away with a YENE training certificate - as well as useful experience.

One of the first businesses whose staff will benefit from the training programme is Newcastle law firm Eversheds.

Eversheds trainee solicitor Colin Murray said: “YENE programmes are usually undertaken by our trainee solicitors as an integral part of their role in community investment as well as contributing to their personal development.

“It is a good opportunity for our trainees to gain experience in developing communication skills in the challenging environment of the classroom, assisting with the explanation of complex commercial situations to students and encouraging them to find their own solutions.

“We believe that encouraging young people to take up careers in business, is even more crucial in an economic downturn as they will hopefully sow the seeds of future economic prosperity.”

YENE chief executive Catherine Marchant said: “There are real opportunities out there to get involved with YENE. In difficult times businesses may find it easier to release staff for training and it is also the best way to maximise future employment. By investing in skills will you be in a strong position to profit as the economy recovers.”
