Newcastle agency takes on Surrey's criminals

A Newcastle based digital design agency has joined forces with Surrey Police to add weight to a publicity campaign aimed at reducing cross-county crime.

The Home Counties force commissioned MAAD, a digital advertising and design agency, to support their initiative Operation Shield. The operation is designed to deter travelling offenders from committing crime within Surrey’s county borders.

The focus of MAAD’s campaign, which launches this week across Surrey, is a series of simple but hard-hitting messages targeted at commuters and specifically to a younger audience. The campaign involves the use of digital road-side billboards and bus shelter posters as well as a series of flash banner ads for networking sites such as Facebook and Bebo.

Colin Kelly, MAAD’s Managing Director said: “Surrey Police were great clients to work for, they were very open minded and willing to explore different avenues of design to maximise their reach. We were given the freedom to deliver a concept which connects with the target audience on their level and we’re confident it will deliver real impact with the public.”

Nick Cloke, spokesman with Surrey Police said: “MAAD responded excellently to our brief - which included demographic and geographic profiles of out of county criminals - to create really targeted visuals for our campaign. They were extremely cooperative and their team was available to us around the clock making full use of phone and on-line conferencing to share ideas and get the project completed within the tight timescale.”

He added: “The eye-catching designs have really helped us to sell our message that Surrey Police is making the county unattractive to travelling criminals.”
