Online Cooking community off to a sizzling start
A FLEDGLING online cooking community has attracted almost 1000 members in its first two months and plans to expand on a global scale.
Sizzledish.com is the brainchild of Durham businessman Alan Lowery, who came up with the idea of creating a place where people from basic, everyday cooks to wannabe chefs could come together to share their love of food and cooking.
Mr Lowery took his idea to the team at Gateshead-based Industrial Strength - which specialises in online marketing for clients including Sage, Tommee Tippee and Gentoo – to help set up the new collective.
He said: “I had this vision of a place where keen but everyday cooks like me could come together to share their love of food.
“I’m probably typical of the average Sizzledish user – I’m not a professional cook but like most people I like to be able to knock up something tasty and imaginative for family and friends without too much stress and I wanted to create that feel online.
“I already run a successful lettings and property management company so I’m no stranger to business itself, but I needed expert help with how to use all the right digital technology such as social media tools to create a thriving web-based business.”
The site now has 900 members, called Sizzlers, who can rate other people’s recipes and post their own, type in a few ingredients and get recipe ideas, and create their own individual cookbook of favourites.
The organisation plans to develop a mobile version so people can access sizzledish from phones, iPads and other mobile devices.
