More Young People Adopting E-Commerce

A recent study looking at adoption of online shopping among the under-25s shows there are encouraging signs for North East E-Commerce businesses targeting this demographic. It seems social media marketing is driving more young people in the region to shop online.

The survey by MyVoucherCodes, tells us ninety percent of under-25s access the internet at least daily, and forty percent of those surveyed regularly purchase products through eCommerce websites.

Facebook and Twitter continue to be the main reasons under-25s go online, with the second most popular reason the use of online information to aid study for school and university. Managing their finances also proves to be a popular use of their time spent online.

It is pleasantly surprising to learn about the number of young people who are both browsing the web and shopping online. One may have thought that the tougher financial climate may have limited the younger generations ability to take part in such activities but this survey suggests that the contrary is true.

E-Commerce projected to eventually surpass the high street as the most popular way to buy. The study also outlines how important social media marketing is within the growing online e-commerce market in the UK.

Groupon and other group buying sites, with their daily discount offers, are also attracting a significant market share – price comparison and voucher code sites are also popular with this segment of the market. The use of Smartphones has allowed more people to access these sites, and as such anyone who is based in a high street environment has become more vulnerable to this type of website.

The study vindicates and actively encourages the increased use of social media as a strong advertising tool when targeting the growing under-25s market. With this sector likely to grow it is critical for anyone looking to operate within it has necessary strategies in place to take advantage of the undoubted opportunities it presents.
