Newcastle businesses promote LOHAS in Asia

The first ever Google-sponsored LOHAS Asia Forum is taking place this week, and two Newcastle based firms are set to play key roles to promote the idea of sustainable living.

Innovation business Wood Holmes will sponsor the event, and the founder and CEO of digital start up Happiest, Bobby Patterson, will deliver a key lecture on the opening day of the event.

The event is currently taking place in Singapore, and will bring together some of the brightest thinkers in global sustainability and digital worlds to explore the ways that digital technology can be used to drive sustainable lifestyles.

Wood Holmes has an Asian base in Singapore, and CEO Stuart Smith is proud to support the rapidly growing idea of LOHAS, which represents Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability. He also helped to design the technology track for the conference.

Mr Smith commented: “LOHAS is an increasingly powerful component of the sustainability movement. It’s estimated that there are 41 million consumers in the US alone who factor lifestyle, health and sustainability issues into their product choices.

“Large brands, including those in the technology sector, can no longer ignore these issues.”

In the course of his talk entitled “The Happiness Footprint: using technology to promote wellness and sustainable brand engagement”, Bobby Patterson will demonstrate how digital technology could be used to enhance brand experience and drive more healthy and sustainable lifestyles.

He said: “Speaking at the LOHAS Asia forum is huge honour. It’s an incredible opportunity to engage Asian & Global businesses and hopefully inspire them with what we are doing at happiest.

“The happiest platform is all about empowering people and organisations to become their own life coach and identify the brands that make them feel good, which has perfect synergies with the LOHAS agenda.”

Mr Smith was delighted to be able to give Happiness the opportunity to go out to the Forum. He added: “The whole use of technology to encourage sustainable behaviours is a key plank of our Smart Cities work.

“Data generated from social platforms such as Happiest plays a key role in generating insights into cities and brands which in turn lead to more sustainable management approaches.”
