UK trade deficit continues to widen
Exports of UK goods to non-EU countries dropped in February, causing the trade deficit to widen further, according to the Office for National Statistics.
The goods and services trade deficit increased to £3.4 billion from a revised £2.5 billion in January.
This decrease was driven lower by a fall in car sales to £400 million to countries including the US, Russia and China.
Import levels remained unchanged, but total exports in February fell by 3.4%. This caused the goods trade deficit to increase to £8.8 billion in February from £7.9 billion in January.
Services surplus remained unchanged at £5.4 billion. The price of export and imports goods rose by 1.5% and 0.7% respectively, compared with January.
