Sales Tip - Ask For More

Word of mouth recommendation is a fantastic way to build your business because as I have said previously what other people say about you is more believable than what you say about yourself. Testimonials are a great form of recommendation however the best form of recommendation is the word of mouth referral.
The reason referrals are the best and most effective way of winning new business is that someone is basically saying “Speak to these guys as they have provided me with a great service”. In words “Speak to these guys as they could help you as well”
However getting referrals is not one of our strong points. We all agree that we should ask for more referrals and we all claim that we are asking for referrals however the truth is, including me, we could be better at getting quality referrals.
So this is a refresher for me as well as you and if you try it I will as well!
So here is what we can do over the next few weeks to generate some new referrals
- Contact some of your previous customers and contacts and let them know that referrals are a great way of growing any business and you are no different. Then ask a simple question “Is there any one you know who could benefit from your services?
- Ask for referrals at every opportunity, ask at face to face meetings, ask over the phone and also ask via emails. In fact I have never tried this before so I might give it a go by asking for referrals on twitter (not sure about this – I will have to think about it a bit more!)
- When you get a referral thank every introduction you get from a contact by sending a thank you letter, card or email
- Then when you win some new business from a referral send a reward to the referee in the form of a gift, something of value or if it is appropriate money
- Once you have started keep promoting your business by implementing a referral process via emails, phone calls and meetings.
Start small by look at generating one new referral a day and build up the numbers if you need to.
So to finish off this week’s tip referrals are a great way to build any business and I am no different so do you know of anyone who would need sales training from me?
