Is Business vs The Environment a perception problem?

The expansion of Heathrow airport’s runways has been the centre of press attention this week, as politicians and business leaders debate the pros and cons of the project.

As reported on Bdaily, the IoD supported the project, and commented that it was crucial for the economy because it would have a knock-on effect on trade.

The impact on the environment, however, is undeniable, and business interests taking precedence over the lowering of emissions seems at loggerheads with the government’s targets to decrease the UK’s carbon footprint.

The fight between business and the environment also resonates at a lower level, as businesses increasingly foster green schemes, however these issues do not have to be oppositional. The advantages of cutting costs, improving supply chain and becoming more efficient are just some of the benefits for businesses.

Are environmental issues still seen as separate to business interests? Or should companies see the green initiative as an integral part of their agendas?
