The ROI of Human Capital

As the summer draws to a close, here at our Tech City HQ in London, Ve Interactive reluctantly waved bye bye to one of our interns last Friday. He is heading back to college to continue his studies, the words “hurry up, qualify and get back here,“ ringing in his ears. The other two interns however, have gone on to receive full time employment with us and we’re delighted about that, their few working weeks here, a preview of what looks like an incredible year ahead.

Building a team is an art. And is very time consuming too. But it’s very satisfying and you know you are getting it right when the feedback is positive, when people tell you they love their jobs, the company and its culture. You also know you are getting it right when the sharks start circling. It’s happened in the past. It must seem quicker to attempt to poach, than to build and invest in a team and a company culture of your own, and it’s a classic failure of imagination that also won’t create sustainability in a workforce. But, happily “teach a man to fish” as the saying goes and well, they seem to have learned from us. The alternative? A legal harpoon.

So do you see employees as an asset or a liability on the balance sheet? At Ve Interactive, we prefer to think that our team along with our intellectual property is a valuable resource, albeit an intangible one that current accounting practices don’t cater for. It’s a known fact that companies that invest in their employees and create a positive environment for the workplace, perform better financially than their competitors.

So whilst valuation metrics may be outdated where people’s influence on the bottom line on the ledger is concerned, here at Ve, we’re proud of our human capital.

And so what are we like to work for? Well as a team we’re loud, as in we share and discuss a lot. We have an open door policy, meaning that imaginative brainwork can be easily cross-pollenated and that support is always available too. We work hard and we celebrate the small stuff with the same enthusiasm and delight as the big stuff. And we’ve established ourselves as the multinational market leader in cart recovery and e-commerce software, with a raft of industry awards to our name.

But you can potentially find out for yourself because we’re hiring! If it’s the safety of the assembly line you are looking for, then we’re definitely not for you.
