Succorfish in Hong Kong for World Seafood Summit

Members of Succorfish’s senior management team will be attending this year’s annual Seafood Summit which is taking place in Hong Kong from 6th-8th September 2012 (http://www.seafoodsummit.org)

The global event brings together representatives from the international seafood industry from producers and distributers to chefs and retailers, as well as the marine conservation community, academics and policy makers in a bid to discuss, present and find solutions to having sustainable seafood. Its goal is to foster dialogue and forge partnerships with various worldwide organisations in order to create a more environmentally, socially and ecomically sustainable marketplace.

Succorfish representatives including Commercial Director, George Henricks, will attend a number of keynote speeches and discussions and be available for meetings in relation to the company’s unique SC2 global vessel monitoring system which has been specifically designed for the marine and commercial fisheries industries (http://www.succorfish.com/index.php/case-studies?id=3).

The advanced tracking device, which is e-log ready and allows users to operate within two metres of protected zones, has been hailed as groundbreaking as part of a project to improve commercial fishing methods whilst protecting designated marine areas.

Key facts about the Asian seafood industry includes:

* approx 90% of global aquaculture production takes place in Asia with China accounting for 25% of world production

* 85% of all people employed in the fisheries and aquaculture industries worldwide reside in Asia

* China is the largest seafood exporter at a staggering US$10.2b annually

* Japan consumers over 60kg per capita making sustainbale seafod crucial. It is not yet pervasive in the region and the value of sustainable seafood needs to be sold to consumers.

* Traceability has become a critical legal and food safety issue in Asia due to illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing.
