North East?s 5* hotel gets more national recognition

Rockliffe Hall’s marketing manager has been named as one of the best in the hotel industry.

The Hotel Marketing Association (HMA) recently (Monday December 17th) announced its top three young marketers at their annual awards ceremony held at The Savoy in London.

Katie Scott was named in the top three for her work promoting 5* Rockliffe Hall as a UK and worldwide destination helping to put both the resort and the North East on the map.

Now in its seventh year, the Young Marketer of the Year award was created by the HMA, a branch of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, to recognise the cream of young marketing talent in the hotel industry. Eligible candidates have to demonstrate they have made a significant contribution to the success of the company and be aged under 30.

Twenty-six year old Katie, from Great Ayton in North Yorkshire, joined Rockliffe Hall in the pre-opening phase in 2009 as sales and marketing co-ordinator having gained a first class honours degree in marketing management from the University of Northumbria.

Since then, Katie has been responsible for developing the five-year sales and marketing strategy in line with- and in response to- the market and industry trends to ensure maximum return on investment as well as managing advertising budgets, PR campaigns and awards.

Katie also developed the ‘Destination Rockliffe’ campaign which focussed on building the Rockliffe Hall brand on a national level to not only raise awareness about the resort as a whole, but also the North East region and what it has to offer.

The campaign has helped to establish Rockliffe Hall as an award-wining, world-class destination just three years after opening and also resulted in a number of other awards including being named as the Large Hotel of the Year at the prestigious VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2012 in May.

Speaking about her recognition by the HMA Katie, who was promoted to the position of marketing manager at the start of 2012, said: “I was really thrilled to be short-listed for this award as this year there were a record number of entries. Some of the marketing campaigns that entered really were outstanding and it’s great for Rockliffe Hall’s creative work to be recognised by the industry.”

Linda Moore, Chairman of the Hotel Marketing Association, said: “We were delighted to receive a record number of entries for the awards this year and the judges were extremely impressed with the quality of the submissions. It is proof that there are some great hotel marketing campaigns out there.”

This latest accolade comes just months after Rockliffe Hall’s marketing team picked up the gold award for the Best Brand Marketing Campaign at the Meetings Industry Marketing Awards (MIMA) in October.
