Finding your own business niche

So, you have decided that you want to try and make money online and be your own boss. You have done the research on where to start and on options of releasing cash to help you begin your adventure. First thing is first, your site will need a niche. Here are three steps to finding just that - your very own niche!

1) List expertise

The most important step is to list everything you have experience in. You do not have to be an expert in a particular field, although it helps, but list down all your strong points. Perhaps you have travelled around Europe and have found yourself with a great deal of knowledge on tourist sites or local cuisine. Get it on your list! Have you ever received training or education in a subject, for example motor mechanics or journalism? List it!

It can be hard to big yourself up, but if you don’t do it then who will? Try to sculpt a long list of things you are good at. Even the simplest things such as working with children.

2) List everything you enjoy

Now that you have noted what you are good at, it is time to jot down everything that you enjoy in life. And I mean everything. Whether it is walking the dog, drinking fine wine, writing poems - get it down! Enjoying what you do is a huge part of making money online as you need to be passionate about what you do.

3) Combine the two

Now that you have your lists completed, I want you to go back and narrow both down to five subjects on each. Now get your thinking cap on. To find your niche you will need to choose one from each list and combine the two. For example, if you have listed that you have experience in foreign cuisine and you enjoy visiting Italy, your niche could be Italian cuisine!

Be careful though. Make sure you research on what makes a good niche. You may have listed your interest as reptiles and your expertise as making pet accessories, but you’ll struggle to find a buyer for a jacket for a gecko! Research can make or break your site, so do as much as you can!
