Manchester employers pitch to potential apprentices

Manchester employers have offered interviews to 50 young people for apprenticeship positions, after an event organised by the Prince’s Trust.

The special event was set up in collaboration with the National Apprenticeship Service to link young people in the Greater Manchester region with employers looking for apprentices.

Employers from across the region met with potential apprentices, with one in five young people in the UK currently struggling to find work, and GCSE and A-level results soon to be published.

The Prince’s Trust and the National Apprenticeship Service hosted a series of networking-style events, where employers presented their organisation and the type of apprenticeships they offer.

Attendees were also told where an apprenticeship could take them in five years, and how it could lead to a career in the future.

Manchester employers at the event included Kids Allowed, Barlows Electrical, Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire Service and Vital Rail.

Advisors from the National Apprenticeship Service were also there to advise young people on their decisions and help them apply for apprenticeship job vacancies available in Manchester.

Jonathan Townsend, regional director of The Prince’s Trust in the North of England, said: “We are delighted to be working with the National Apprenticeship Service to help ensure that even more of Manchester’s unemployed young people are aware of the apprenticeship opportunities available to them.

“At The Prince’s Trust we have a long history of working with disadvantaged young people to get their lives on track. We hope that the event helped even more young people to discover the right path for them.”

John Myers, head of employer accounts for Greater Manchester, added: “The event was a huge success and 50 young people have been offered interviews for apprenticeships in Manchester which is a significant achievement.

“The demand for apprenticeships from young people has never been stronger. They are a great way for them to earn while they learn in a real job, gaining a real qualification; setting them on the road to success in their chosen career.

“Hiring apprentices is a proven way of attracting new talent and developing a motivated, skilled and diverse workforce.

“Events like this, where young people have the opportunity to meet employers face-to-face and find out about Apprenticeships first hand, are therefore incredibly important.”

Apprenticeships are available at Intermediate, Advanced and Higher (degree) level and cover over 280 job roles across a range of sectors.
