Association of Business Schools and AACSB International Announce The Launch Of The European Bridge Programme

The Association of Business Schools (ABS) and AACSB International (AACSB) are delighted to announce the launch of the AACSB-ABS Bridge Programme to be offered in Europe. Originated by AACSB, the programme was created to provide a path for business leaders to move from the corporate office into the classroom. Since its inception in 2006, the programme has graduated more than 325 participants.

Designed and delivered by excellent teachers in business and management education, this intensive six-day program enables participants to:

• Understand the key drivers that impact teaching, learning and assessment, and the student experience,

• Create an engaging and motivating learning environment,

• Gain insights into planning, organising, and delivering courses,

• Develop class management techniques and teaching skills that inspire and mentor today’s students,

• Reflect on whether business school teaching is suitable for them; and

• Network within the business school community. Universities and Science Minister, The Rt Hon David Willetts MP, supports this new venture:

“This excellent initiative will bring executives into the classroom and will bring scholarship closer to the business world”.

Dr Sandy Pepper, Professor of Management Practice, London School of Economics and Political Science and the Chairman of the new Foundation of Management Education (FME) Committee says:

“I remember some years ago reading about the AACSB’s Bridge programme in the Financial Times alongside an article about the FME. At the time I was a partner at PwC, and I was exploring the possibility of a move to academia. The FME enabled me to make that move. I am really delighted that the FME has now been instrumental, working with ABS and AACSB, in establishing a version of the Bridge Programme in the UK. I am convinced it will play a key role in helping a new cohort of managers develop their own networks and careers within the business and management school community.”

Offered 22-27 June 2014, the programme will be hosted at the Cass Business School, City University London, in partnership with the Association of Business Schools, AACSB International, and with assistance from the new FME Network Committee.

Since its inception, the AACSB Bridge Programme has prepared numerous senior-level executives for careers in academia—ensuring that there is a rich pipeline of qualified professionals, beyond business PhDs, who can bring their expertise to the classroom and educate effectively.”

Recommended by business school deans from across the world, graduates of the program receive a certificate of completion, and are immediately recognized as eligible candidates for teaching positions at business schools worldwide. Eligibility: Participants of the AACSB-ABS Bridge Programme must have a master’s degree, as well as professional experience of significant duration related to their discipline of interest. This can include senior-level executives with five to seven years of extensive professional management experience; individuals with at least seven years of in-depth industry knowledge and significant levels of responsibility and expertise; or individuals with professional achievements that have significantly impacted an organisation or industry. Please note, preferred candidates should have less than two years’ full-time teaching experience.
