Ricoh Arena shortlisted for a national award

The Ricoh Arena in Coventry has been shortlisted for another national award.

The versatile venue has been successful in the second stage of judging and is the only Midlands representative to be among the finalists in the Exhibition Venue of the Year category at the Event Awards 2013.

It will be competing against the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company, Business Design Centre, Olympia London, ExCeL London and Sandown Park Racecourse for the accolade when the presentation ceremony is held at Roundhouse in London on Friday, October 4.

This announcement comes after the Ricoh Arena was shortlisted in the Venue Team of the Year category at the AEO Excellence Awards 2013 while Chris Owen was voted the Best Venue Event Manager at the Exhibition News Awards 2013 and Justine Hewitt won the Rising Star category in the Stadium Business Awards 2013.

Liz Cooper, marketing director at the Ricoh Arena, said this was a fantastic endorsement for its exhibition facilities by the judging panel for the Event Awards 2013.

“In a 12-month period from last May, we held over 1,000 events including exhibitions in a wide array of sectors which underlines that we are renowned as a major venue in the UK among national and international clients,” she said.

“Our latest investment means we now have capacity to host 7,500 delegates in the Jaguar Exhibition Hall and we have increased our accommodation to 121 bedrooms which are popular with exhibition organisers and delegates who want to stay on-site during their event.

“We have also refurbished kiosks to extend our selection of drinks and snacks, improved Wi-Fi coverage with new access points, updated our website with all the information and documents which exhibitors need ahead of their show and refurbished offices for organisers to use to provide a more comfortable working environment.

“The flexibility of our space means we can host exhibitions of varying sizes which is one of the reasons why we have attracted global companies and high-street retailers as well as niche exhibitions for a particular industry such as Ambulex and Childcare Expo.

“Our staff must take a great deal of credit for this national recognition because of their partnership working with clients from the booking to the exhibition itself and their professionalism is one of the reasons why we attract repeat bookings.

“We are delighted to be the only Midlands representative in the Exhibition Venue of the Year category but we face tough competition in a section which was won by ExCeL London last year.”
