Reflections on the retail sector from 2013

Over the course of the year, the retail sector has like many sectors, seen the introduction of new services at an increasing rate with convenience being key to consumers.

One such example is the introduction of the click and collect ‘drive thru’ as retailers such as ASDA adhere to customer demand.

We have also established that while online shopping continues to grow, nothing can beat the in-store customer experience according to 58% of consumers in a survey conducted by Groupon and Retail analysts, Kantar Retail.

It would also be intriguing to see how period television programmes, such as ‘Mr Selfridge’ have helped to capture and subconsciously turn the audience’s attention to the charm and luxury of good old fashioned customer service.

Independent stores certainly remained popular amongst shoppers. Their unique charm and one-to-one service remains at the heart of their appeal.

As we continue to lift ourselves out of the recession, retailers will be looking forward to the festive period and the attractions on offer to shoppers.

In the build up to Christmas, we have enjoyed our reindeer parade and off-course, no yuletide gathering would be the same without Santa and his elves.

We would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us at Royal Quays. Happy shopping!!
