Training company shortlisted for national innovation award
A Reading-based training company that helps prepare young people to enter the world of work is in the running for a national award.
Employability Town has been named a finalist in the Education Innovation Awards. The national awards celebrate excellence and recognise innovation using technology that is happening within learning establishments.
Employability Town has been shortlisted for its online portal, which helps young people to develop the essential work related skills required by employers.
Klaudia Mitura, founder of Employability Town and skills trainer, explains: “We’re delighted to be named a finalist and to have our training system highlighted in this way. We are currently working with a number of colleges and organisations across the region and continue to go from strength to strength.”
The Employability Town website portal, set out as a map of a town, is packed with fun exercises, interactive games, valuable expert advice and case studies of young people. Each building is a course covering a specific topic or soft skills and the portal also includes a forum for student interaction and ‘Town Hall’ for networking with experts.
The site can be used by young people directly or by teachers to enhance classroom learning. The portal provides reporting so teachers can also monitor and grade the progress of their students. The game-like and social environment provides an innovative solution to encouraging young people to undertake soft business skills training.
Klaudia added: “Many of the main barriers young people face in gaining employment are not a lack of knowledge or a well written CV, but rather a lack of a range of soft skills such as communication, confident presentation abilities, time management or realistic goal setting. Through our portal, young people can shape their awareness and understanding of these skills in a fun and interactive way, helping them to find and sustain employment in the future.”
