Carr’s Milling industries acquires Chirton Engineering

Carlisle-based Carr’s Milling Industries have acquired Chirton Engineering Limited in a deal worth £2.75 million.

Chirton, which is based in North Shields, employs 52 people and will become part of Carr’s Engineering division.

The deal also includes a further £2.55 million payable subject to Chirton’s performance over a five year period.

Chirton managing director Paul Stewart will remain with the business along with the rest of the firm’s management team.

Tim Davies, CEO said: “We are thrilled to be acquiring Chirton Engineering. The business and its management team are recognised in their industry and Chirton is renowned for delivering quality product innovation to its customers.

“The business will contribute to the ongoing development of our innovation programme within our Engineering division and we look forward to welcoming the new team into the Group.”

Paul Stewart told Bdaily: “Chirton was very attractive to Carr’s and it’s going to be great to have that ‘big brother’ who has totally bought into my plans for the firm, and the ongoing expansion.

“This is really business as usual for the firm, as we’ve had a very clear vision of the growth. Carr’s will be supporting that vision and underpinning some of the investment.”

Chirton are due to move premises from their current location on West Chirton South Industrial Estate to the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate.

The move will provide the extra square footage needed to accommodate the firm’s growing range of high-tech precision engineering tools.

As part of the expansion process, Paul expects Chirton to double turnover and create a number of jobs over the next three years.
