Ringtons proves it has Great Taste

Renowned North East tea specialist Ringtons is raising a cup (of tea!) in celebration as it is awarded six accolades in the prestigious Great Taste Awards 2014.

Fighting off stiff competition from over 10,000 products entered into the world’s largest blind-taste food awards, Ringtons has been awarded, ‘outstanding’ two-star ratings for its premium Kenyan Gold tea bags, and bergamot infused Earl Grey tea bags.

The company also scooped one-star ratings for its speciality Signature Bird of Paradise loose tea and Signature Strawberries and Cream infusion. While its ginger goodies went down a treat; with both its hand-baked Ginger Snaps and moist Ginger Cake receiving a ‘simply delicious’ one-star rating.

Judged by over 400 of the most demanding palates of food critics, chefs, cooks, farmers and a host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers.

Speaking of the win Jon Malton, director for Ringtons said: “It is a huge honour to have been recognised by the Great Taste Awards 2014. The blind tasting process involves a number of respected food and drink experts which gives the awards great prestige and shows that our products really are of exceptional quality and taste.”

Upon awarding the two-star rating judges described Ringtons Kenyan Gold tea bags as: “Fresh, full of flavour, good briskness. Takes milk well. The quality comes through, it’s alive and robust with good liquor.”

While Ringtons Ginger Cake was described as: “Well presented moist cake that has a lovely warming ginger spice. Not too sticky and the crumb is light and fluffy.”

The Great Taste 2014 panel of judges included: Masterchef judge and restaurant critic Charles Champion, BBC Food Programme presenter Sheila Dillon, Great British Bake Off winner Frances Quinn, MasterChef 2013 Natalie Coleman, food buyers from Harrods, Fortnum & Mason, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Whole Food Markets, and chefs including Michelin Star chef Russell Brown.
