Painting and Mont Blanc the latest milestones in Wilsons’ 100 Things

Taking on the Tour du Mont Blanc, and re-painting a Nottingham centre for the homeless, are amongst the latest challenges completed by Wilsons’ staff in their quest to do 100 things for charity this year.

Nottingham-based The Wilson Organisation is marking its centenary in 2014 with its’100 Things for Charity’ year-long initiative, by supporting 100 community, charity and school projects. The firm created and organises The Midlands Family Business Awards.

Last month, the firm’s CEO Annabel Prow (pictured) took on the world-renowned Tour du Mont Blanc challenge, representing the firm’s 58th ‘thing’ for charity this year.

In just seven days, Annabel completed the solo mountain trek in aid of Riding for the Disabled, tackling the 100-miles of trails across France, Italy and Switzerland, around Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in the Alps, including 10km of ascent/descent, equivalent to the height of Mount Everest – smashing the usual 12 day target to complete the trek.

Closer to home, a team of Wilsons’ staff spent evenings and weekends painting the entire outside of Emmanuel House Homeless Centre in Nottingham city centre. The project and Wilsons team have been recognised in the coveted Aviva Community Project Awards 2014, being shortlisted in the Community Support category. All prize fund winners will be announced at a finale dinner for the finalists in London in November.

Amongst other challenges completed so far this year are a shoe collection and various cake sales and coffee mornings in aid of Cancer Research, Age UK, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support, the donation of garden and outdoor games to a local inner city school, and running a quiz for the breast cancer support group, Southwell Pink Ladies.

The not-for-profit Midlands Family Business Awards are this year also committing all funds raised to the centenary’s ‘100 things’ initiative.

“Our ‘100 Things for Charity’ is supporting 100 community, charity and school projects in and around Nottingham throughout 2014,” explained Annabel Prow. “It is our way of marking the firm’s milestone of 100-years and also gives us a great opportunity to work with the people and community in and around Nottingham. So many of the team at Wilsons have challenged themselves to help or raise funds for a charity close to their hearts, and all whilst having a bit of fun.”

The Wilson Organisation is a family-owned business, today in its third generation and led by Annabel Prow and her sister Charlotte Perkins, MD of the firm.

The Wilson Organisation, based in Nottingham, provides innovative insurance and financial solutions to businesses and individuals both regionally and nationally. It is a third generation family business and underwrites the not-for-profit Midlands Family Business Awards that launched in 2010.
