Good Technology Supports the CGL Group

London, UK – January 19, 2015 – In 2012, the CGL group, a subsidiary of Société Générale, decided to expand the mobility resources of its employees, offering mobile access to one of its business applications. Formed in 1951, the CGL group is a leading financial institution in the vehicle and boat financing and loan consolidation sectors. Just a few figures to illustrate the group: CGL has 900 employees in Europe; 17 sales branches in France; 300,000 customers and over 60 years’ experience.

The first stage involved ensuring the security of mobile terminals – initially tablets running iOS – and developing their potential. In the process, Bertrand Méens, Systems security manager for the CGL group, quickly eliminated the conventional solutions for mobile data management (MDM), since they did not provide enough functionalities in response to expected usage such as access to e-mails or to applications available on the Internet. Testing the Good for Enterprise® solution in the first half of 2013, he found it met his criteria and began a deployment in July 2013.

Launch of BYOD With the aim of offering greater flexibility for its employees to access mobile solutions, the CGL group also decided to begin a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme, allowing eligible employees to use their own mobile devices if they wished, with the company paying part of their phone costs. The BYOD facility has many benefits: the employer saves money since an employee has access to the lower phone tariffs available to the general public that are not available to businesses. It also offers opportunities to promote new digital and mobility uses via employees’ smartphones. Employees no longer need to have two mobile phones, and they also benefit from a reduced phone bill. It’s a win-win situation.

The BYOD programme was launched as a voluntary scheme, mainly for employees using BlackBerry handsets. As Bertrand Méens explains, it’s not easy to manage a BYOD scheme. “The qualification conditions have to be specified, selecting which connections have to be monitored, protecting personal data for employees and collaborating closely with the human resources department.”

Supporting mobility Supporting both employees’ own mobile devices and those belonging to the CGL group, the Good for Enterprise solution has enabled personal data to be properly separated from professional data in “containers,” offering excellent security and giving access to greater mobile functionality. Containerisation is an effective means of securing company data on employee-owned devices, which may have less than perfect security.

Employees can now easily access their e-mail, diaries, contacts and company intranet from their phones. The CGL group also deployed a mobile business application, making stock control at vehicle franchises easier in the context of financing for this stock.

“Good for Enterprise is the solution that meets all our criteria and can support future mobility development within the CGL group,” explains Bertrand Méens.

Developing mobility Today, CGL group uses Good for Enterprise on over 100 smartphones and tablets, including both BYOD or COPE (Corporate Owned, Personally Enabled) type. The CGL group is also exploring the option of replacing around a hundred laptops with tablets. Bertrand Méens is exploring possible mobile development paths with tests on Good Share™ and the Good Dynamics® Secure Mobility Platform.
