Mediaworks joins the Anthony Nolan register

Members of the Mediaworks team have signed the register of blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan.

By signing the register, 12 Mediaworkers have pledged to donate their blood stem cells or bone marrow to individuals who urgently require life-saving transplants.

Registration for the charity took around ten minutes and required a saliva sample. Once complete, each person on the list will have the potential to help someone undergo a successful cord blood, bone marrow or stem cell transplant.

Jack Collier, an Audience Development Executive at Mediaworks, organised the effort. He explained: “Signing up to the Anthony Nolan register was something I’d been meaning to do for a long time. I think that’s the case for a lot of people — they’ve heard of the charity, but perhaps don’t know a lot about it or know what donating involves.

“It often just takes a gentle reminder for people to take a few minutes and fill in the form. Simply chatting with your friends, family and colleagues could add vital numbers to the list and inevitably help to save lives.”

Anthony Nolan was set up in 1974, when Shirley Nolan created the first worldwide register in a bid to match donors with people who desperately needed transplants. Her effort was inspired her three-year-old son Anthony, who required a bone marrow transplant. Today, the charity has over 550,000 people on their UK register alone.
