David Crausby MP backs Vernacare as British exporter

Bolton North East MP David Crausby visited medical products manufacturer Vernacare to announce his nomination of the global business for the ‘Exported by Britain’ Campaign.

The MP toured Vernacare’s award winning factory to see the latest medical innovations. These products are used in hospitals worldwide to help prevent the spread of infections, such as Ebola and C. difficile.

David Crausby said: “The Exported by Britain campaign showcases the UK’s manufacturing talent. MPs have been invited to nominate successful global products from their constituencies and I am delighted to champion Vernacare. Their innovative infection prevention products are exported to 48 countries and they have been a Bolton success story and major employer for more than 50 years.”

Matt Miller, CEO of Vernacare, said: “We would like to thank our MP for his support. The ‘Vernacare System’ of hygienic patient toileting and washing is used by 94% of NHS trusts and is fast being recognised as the gold standard method of human waste management globally. We are expanding our international trade across every continent and recently secured our biggest ever export order in the Far East.”

Vernacare designs and manufactures single-use bedpans, urinals, wash bowls and other containers from renewable natural fibre, which are disposed of hygienically in its Vortex disposal machines, also made in Bolton. This improves standards of patient safety and care - reducing the risk of infection and saving money and nurses’ time, while boosting environmental performance. The company’s infection control products are currently being used in Sierra Leone to assist the fight against Ebola.
