Screw it, let’s do it!

If I could offer one bit of business advice it’s this - screw it, let’s do it!

Don’t be afraid to go for it. It’s important not to limit yourself by fearing failure. Dare to try new things and don’t constrain yourself by what others might thing of you if you fail. Think big and bold, paying no heed to nagging fears, concerns or insecurities. Take the long road and be prepared to take a gamble. It’s a cliche, but he who dares, really does win!

This is just as true for small businesses as it is for those more established.

The great thing about running a business at the moment, is you shouldn’t need to be fearful. There’s so much help and support available for businesses, there’s never been a better time to live by the moto “screw it, let’s do it!”.

Often the best advice is peer-to-peer. Running a business is no mean feat. No matter what your business does, or how long you’ve been going, it’s always worth listening to people who have been there, done it before; they’re not only wearing the t-shirt, they’ve got the full three piece suit with cufflinks and pocket squares to match!

Business is GREAT recently launched their guide: the GREAT way to grow: Small businesses share their advice, and I would encourage any business owner to take a read. In it, British small businesses and top entrepreneurs have shared their most valuable pieces of business advice, as well as hints and tips to help other businesses to grow and expand.

A key element of the guide is showing how Government support had helped these businesses grow and highlighting the Governments services small businesses can access to help them achieve the same success. I would encourage as many business leaders to read the guide, take what you can from it and then pass on your own helpful tips and bits of advice to other small businesses.

Business Minister Matthew Hancock who supported the launch of the guide said, “Coming from a small business background I understand how important it is to learn from failure - as well as success. Making sure that every small business can access the advice and support they need is an important part of our plan to make Britain the best place in the world to start and grow a business.”
