Sunderland Shorts Film Festival partners with Maxim Brewery to launch special edition 'Reel Ale'

Sunderland-based Maxim Brewery has partnered with Sunderland Shorts Film Festival to create a special limited edition version of their traditional brown ale, which will be sold at the festival’s inaugural event.

Since it was first brewed in 1901, Maxim Brewery has produced a number of special editions of its trademark Double Maxim in honour of various names and events from across the region, including Frankie and The Heartstrings, World Cup winners West Aukland FC, and even the Mayor of Sunderland – this latest version, to mark the city’s first short film festival, has been aptly named ‘Reel Ale’.

Created in collaboration with the DC Shorts Film Festival, the Sunderland Shorts Film Festival will bring together filmmakers from across the globe to celebrate the very best in short films – seeing over 60 carefully selected films being screened at some of the city’s most vibrant venues such as Independent, The Empire, Sunderland Software Centre, and Sunderland Minster.

Mark Anderson, Maxim Brewery, said: “We’re really proud to be supporting the very first Sunderland Shorts Film Festival. It’s a great event for Sunderland, and it’s fantastic to be part of it.

“When the festival approached us, we were really keen to get involved as we’re always looking to support events and projects in the city. Reel Ale will be on sale at a number of venues during the festival, so make sure you look out for it and grab one of the limited edition bottles!”

During the festival, Sunderland is set to host filmmakers and film enthusiasts from around the world - giving the city, its businesses, and its creatives the opportunity to demonstrate that it has plenty to offer visitors from across the region and beyond.

Rebecca Burdon, Festival Manager, Sunderland Shorts Film Festival, said: “The Sunderland Shorts Film Festival will not only showcase the work of talented filmmakers from Sunderland and further afield, it is also a great opportunity for us to collaborate with businesses based in and around the city, in order to offer audiences something different.”

The festival will take place between between July 2 and July 5.
