Investment sparks expansion for Gateshead’s Stadium Packing Services

Stadium Packing Services has today revealed a new company name and brand, as it launches its global freight service following a significant investment,

The newly-formed division of the Gateshead company, Stadium Export Services, will provide global freight services from here in the North East, working directly with airlines and shipping companies, after successfully completing certification with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the British International Freight Association (BIFA).

As a part of the British Engines Group, the company now offers complete end to end export service in house, alongside the design, manufacturing and packing of customer’s product.

Stadium also remains the only export packaging company based in the region to hold the Military Packager Approval Scheme (MPAS) certification, allowing the company to design and approve packaging on behalf of the Ministry of Defence.

This service offering is the culmination of a significant investment including a 15,000 sq.ft extension to its factory and warehousing space complete with new loading ramps and lifting equipment to support the additional capacity.

The new cranage provides greater flexibility within the factory, including additional loading docks, to handle product of up to 50 tonnes in weight.

New semi-automated machinery has been introduced to improve manufacturing processes, alongside additional training and business systems ensuring Stadium can continue to grow and develop the business.

Brian Smith, chief executive of Stadium Export Services, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer these services to our existing customers and have already had a great take up from North East businesses wanting an end to end export service. Becoming a cargo agent under IATA and a member of BIFA was the logical next step for our business; we now have in-house expertise from across the logistics market alongside an excellent manufacturing and packing facility of over 65,000 sq.ft.

“With the expertise and business systems now in place to offer a truly complete and seamless service, we are ensuring prices are more competitive and lead-times further reduced for our customers, who now have a single point contact throughout the entire export process.

“We expect this to lead to the continued expansion of the business, as we work with new and existing customers to provide the quality of service we are known for.”
