Manchester United secure new golf deal to strengthen ties with Adidas
In a move to further strengthen ties with kit sponsor Adidas, Manchester United have signed a deal with the sportswear giant’s TaylorMade golfing brand.
The new partnership will see United’s brand used on a new range of TaylorMade-Adidas golf gear, including apparel and footwear.
The club’s group managing director, Richard Arnold, said of the deal: “Like Manchester United, TaylorMade is an iconic name within sport. We believe the range of Manchester United golf attire and accessories produced will be popular with our fans across the globe.
“These products are reflective of the fantastic quality and design we have experienced from across the Adidas group and the strength of what is a fantastic partnership.”
Manchester United signed a 10-year, $1.28bn deal with Adidas in July 2014 that saw the sportswear firm become their kit supplier.
According to a report by Soccerex, TaylorMade-Adidas Golf Company’s managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, David Silvers, commented: “As a company we are incredibly excited to be working with Manchester United.
“We know that there are thousands of golfers on the terraces of Old Trafford each week and around Europe, and to be able to partner with the club to create this range of bespoke merchandise is a fantastic opportunity.”
He added: “We’re greatly looking forward to working more closely with the team at Manchester United to further build the partnership between the brands.”
The news comes after reports that Adidas boss Herbert Hainer had voiced concerns over Louis van Gaal’s play style, and its potential impact on the value of the Adidas-Manchester United partnership.
