How to do App Store Optimization or App Page Optimization

App Store optimization or app page optimization or ASO or APO is nothing but the SEO of the page where an app is hosted or showcased. When you submit an app on any store, a page generated in which app-description, images, video, etc can be put. ASO is all about taking care of content part (text, image, video and other multimedia) so that the page can get good rank not only in a store itself but on search engines too.

So how does it happen and what are things to be considered when doing ASO or APO for an app. Here we go –

  • Optimizing the keyword tags in the store.

First of all, research on the suitable keywords that you can add to the description of the app. You can do it by going through the pages of your competitors and observe what keywords they have placed in their content. You can also do it by observing queries you inputted in the app store search box and met with the best of results.

  • Do not repeatedly use a keyword or key phrase

Once you have keywords and key phrases in your hand, now create the app description around it. But keep in mind the prominence and proximity of keywords or phrases. Do not over stuff the description because it will do nothing but cause a negative impact. You need to learn about keyword density before putting description in the app store’s page for your app.

  • Use graphics and video

App store allows you to put screen shorts of the image. Use the most descriptive screen shots of the app. Google Play store allow to add video so you can host the video on YouTube and add to your app’s page on Google Play.

  • Figure out the best keyword tags

You should not use any keyword but figure out the best of keyword tags so that you can get accurate response from the app users. It will take a lot research to found the best of the keyword but once you know them, you would better optimize the page.

  • Keep the title relevant

When giving the title to the app, make it relevant by putting in the combination of words that perfectly define the purpose the app is aimed at. Mention the search query in the title the app can be searched for.

  • Write short but sweet description.

Do not make a long, article-type description and put many keywords. Instead, keep it short but descriptive. Users do not have enough time to read the whole description and then discover what the app is all about. So keep the key things in first lines and then list the features or benefits of the app.

  • Do not use lengthy sentences as they can distract users

When writing description, keep all sentence short and simple. Use plain and simple English so that anyone can read it.

  • It must appeal users to download the app

App must appeal users downloading it. There are a number of things to achieve this goal. First thing is icon of the app. Make it catchy and attracting but do not make overly complex design to add creativity.

  • Try to explain as many features as you can explain in this description

Add the features of the app with description. List as many as you have because many users first go through the features an app has and then download it.
