Virtual Reality to Change Online Gaming Forever
Virtual reality is the next best thing in entertainment. There are several groundbreaking products expected to be launched in the near future - and they have already proven their worth on the entertainment and video games front. But will they have an influence on what and how we play online? Isle of Man based game developer Microgaming sure thinks so - and it has already showcased its first foray into virtual reality.
The developer is expected to release its first commercial virtual reality roulette game - and maybe even others - through one of its flagship partners, the Royal Vegas online casino. The developer has a history of launching such innovative solutions through Royal Vegas: a long-time partner, it was the first to roll out the mobile games Microgaming has developed, and last year it was the first to launch its Android Wear solutions. The Royal Vegas casino has a history of over a decade, and has the reputation of one of the most reliable, trustworthy online gaming destinations ever. It seems plausible for Microgaming to stick to its tradition, and useRoyal Vegas as a channel for launching its latest innovation in the world of real money gaming.
Microgaming has first showcased its innovative virtual reality solution last year, at the ICE Totally Gaming - one of the largest real money gaming related trade shows in the world. At this year’s event, the developer has shown its progress to the public. Using an Oculus Rift DK 2 headset with Leap Motion 3D Controller, it has taken all curious visitors on a trip into a completely different world - a space themed game room with a fully functional roulette table inside. And, of course, a robotic croupier to spin the wheel. The visitors who had a chance to experience the new environment first hand were amazed by the level of immersion achieved. They described it similar to being in a whole different world, completely losing contact with the physical reality.
But virtual reality has the potential to change way more than just playing and consuming media - it could change the way we interact online.
Remember the innovative social network called Second Life? It was a very popular news topic back in the day, with a complete virtual world created by the users themselves, being inhabited by avatars of people in the real world. While the idea seemed weird at first, virtual reality can - and most likely will - breathe new life into this huge virtual playground, allowing participants to totally immerse into its amazing 3D environment. Maybe, just maybe, we are looking at the Facebook of the future - the next big thing expected to profoundly change the way we interact online.
