Travel Counsellors kicks off multi-year tech investment strategy
Travel Counsellors has embarked on the first stage of a multi-million pound tech investment plan with the launch of its first consumer app.
The Manchester-headquartered travel firm teamed up with mobile software developer Apadmi to create ‘my TC’, which offers leisure and corporate customers access to travel information, documents and itineraries, as well as providing a point of contact with the customer’s own travel counsellor.
When the company announced its £111m turnover and £7.3m pre-tax profit earlier this year, it also revealed a plan to invest £1m per year in new technology. The launch of my TC represents the opening instalment of that strategy.
In June, my TC was soft launched to 80 travel counsellors across the firm’s seven international operations, with 350 leisure and corporate customers trailing the software.
During its trial stage, the app was accessed 1,300 times and viewed in 25 countries.
Travel Counsellors’ IT director Rob Snelson said: “We are very excited about the launch of my TC.
“Travel Counsellors is synonymous with high levels of personal service and that unique selling point has been encapsulated through a digital medium with the launch of this app.”
He added: “Using the very best technology combined with a caring heart to connect people is fundamental to our business and that is brought to light with this latest development.”
Karen Hogan, a Liverpool-based travel counsellor, commented: “My customers love the new app.
“I have had feedback that it makes such a difference to them when they’re on the move, as they can get in contact with me at the touch of a button and can access all their documentation wherever they are in the world, even without Wi-Fi.”
She continued: “It definitely won’t replace the personal relationship I have with them, but I think it’ll actually enhance the service I provide.
“There are clear benefits for my business too – with the sharing functionality, customers can easily pass on my details and post on social media about their fantastic experience”
