Sales success for Throstlenest Saddlery
The owners of a saddlery and equestrian shop just outside Barnsley have seen their business grow thanks to a recent surge in online sales.
Husband-and-wife team David and Jayne Baxter, who run Throstlenest Saddlery at Silkstone Common, say that investment in the website has enabled them to expand their customer base.
Over the past two months, online sales have increased by 50 per cent – something which David believes is down to attracting horse riders and enthusiasts from as far afield as Cambridge and Gloucestershire.
He explains: “Traditionally, our core customers came from within a 25 to 50 mile radius but we are now able sell to people around the country.
“E-commerce is an important part of our business and the market is changing. We know that riders want to spend more time out with their horses rather than shopping so wanted to enable them to buy specialist equipment without having to travel.”
David – who has run the saddlery for more than 35 years – says that despite investing in the online shopping experience, offering customers a personal service remains at the heart of the business.
He added: “People often ring us for advice or guidance, especially when they are investing in something like a horse’s rug or girth. They want to be reassured that they are getting the right size and fit or that it’s the right product for them.”
