LJ Ross’s Holy Island translated for German market

Bestselling crime author LJ Ross’ debut novel Holy Island has been translated for the German market.

Paperback versions of the number one bestseller are now available in German translation to be enjoyed by a new audience.

Louise, who writes under the penname LJ Ross, said: “The response to Holy Island here in the UK has been absolutely overwhelming and it soon became apparent that there was demand to read it elsewhere.

“So far, the English-language version is selling well internationally in the US, Australia, France and India, but it has now been translated especially for the German market. Because the destination of Holy Island isn’t very well known in Germany, we’ve gone with a change of name for the novel to Ein Gefahrlicher Kult, or ‘A Dangerous Cult’, to reflect the storyline about the mysterious cult known as ‘the Circle’ which runs through each of the three DCI Ryan mysteries.

“It’s great to be joining other authors who are experiencing success in Germany and who are all helping to put the locations in their own books on the map. It would be incredible to think that overseas visitors are inspired to come to Northumberland after reading my books.

“I’ve also had some people who are learning German telling me they are going to buy Ein Gefahrlicher Kult to improve their language skills.”

Louise, who is originally from Ponteland, Northumberland, and now lives in Bath with her husband and young son, penned Holy Island after leaving her high-flying role as a regulatory lawyer in the city.

The plot follows DCI Ryan who retreats to Holy Island seeking sanctuary when he is forced to take sabbatical leave from his duties as a detective. But he is soon forced back to work when a young woman is found dead among the monastic ruins of Lindisfarne Priory.

Shooting to the top of the Amazon bestseller lists with Holy Island, she followed the first of her DCI Ryan books with a further two – Sycamore Gap and Heavenfield. Louise is now preparing to release her fourth novel in the series, Angel.
