New Chelsea stadium another step closer as second consultation opens

Planning application for Chelsea’s new stadium at Stamford Bridge has been submitted for a second public consultation period as plans for the new ground continue to take shape.

The plans, which will see the Premier League club’s current home demolished, were originally submitted to Hammersmith and Fulham Council back in November for the first public consultation and will now undergo a second round of consultation until 7 October.

The club is plotting a new 60,000 seater stadium with plans including a new club shop, museum and restaurant/cafe on site along with excavation works and developments to the concourse surrounding the ground

Following the initial planning application, plans have now been resubmitted to the council with a number of amendments based on feedback on the some of the environmental factors relating to the plans.

These include enhanced landscaping proposals which includes more tree planting and green roofs; refinements to the stadium design along with the introduction of a combined heat and power (CHP) plant and a reduction in the number of car parking spaces from 250 to 190.

A new stadium has become a matter of urgency for Chelsea as capacity at their current 41,600 seater home is dwarfed by some of their Premier League rivals, with Tottenham Hotspur also embarking on a new 60,000-seater stadium development this year.
